On Friday, 20 March some of our most passionate and creative students brought Shakespeare’s world to life in a brilliant display of artistry and performance at our School Shakespeare Carnival. From dramatic duologues, insightful group-devised performances, to breath taking music compositions, expressive dance and physical theatre pieces, and cleverly reimagined Smart Films, the calibre of performance was nothing short of extraordinary.
The Carnival, held in Ou gym featured entries across six diverse categories: Duologue, Physical Theatre, Smart Film, Group Devised, Music, and Dance. Each item reflected the dedication, ingenuity and deep understanding of Shakespeare’s timeless stories — all reinterpreted through fresh, contemporary lenses.
Our panel of judges — Speech and Drama Tutor (and alumna) Mrs Kylie Alcorn, Director of Music -Mr Matthew Minter, Creative Arts Prefect Navita Maher and Drama teacher Melissa Hawthorne all had the formidable task of selecting just one item from each category to progress to the next level. With such an impressive standard across the board, this was no easy feat. Every performance demonstrated bold choices, creative collaboration, and strong performance technique.
